COMPASS is open to youth in grades K–12 who are experiencing grief, divorce, separation, or other significant family changes. Participants are grouped by age, creating a safe and supportive environment where they can connect with peers who may be navigating similar experiences.COMPASS is designed to help youth feel understood, build healthy coping skills, and know they are not alone.

Can I participate more than once?

Yes! Youth are welcome to participate in COMPASS more than once. As children grow and circumstances change, they may experience and process grief, divorce, or family transitions in new ways. Returning to COMPASS can provide continued support, connection, and an opportunity to build on healthy coping skills.

Dates of program?

COMPASS is a 12-week program that meets Mondays from 6:00–7:00 PM, beginning October 19, 2026, and ending January 18, 2027.There will be no sessions on December 21 or December 28.

No. COMPASS is completely free to participating youth and families. Ozaukee Family Services is committed to making this supportive program accessible to families navigating grief, divorce, and other significant life transitions.

How do I register?

Registration is easy! Parents or caregivers can register their child for COMPASS through the Ozaukee Family Services website. A parent registration form, demographic form for each child, and individual child registration form are required.Questions or need help registering? What to expect

COMPASS provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where youth meet in age-appropriate small groups with trained coordinators and volunteers. Each week includes guided conversations and activities that help participants express their feelings, connect with others, and develop healthy ways to cope with grief, divorce, and family changes.There’s no pressure to share before they’re ready. The goal is for every participant to feel heard, supported, and less alone as they navigate change.

Can I volunteer?

Yes! COMPASS relies on caring, dedicated volunteers to help create a safe and supportive environment for participating youth. Is there a parent meeting?

Yes! While youth participate in COMPASS, we also offer a support group for parents and caregivers. This provides an opportunity to connect with other parents, share experiences, and receive support while navigating family changes and transitions.We also ask parents and caregivers to stay on the first night for a brief orientation to complete paperwork, learn what to expect during the 12-week program, and hear about special activities, including Shopping Night and Celebration Night.

Where is the program held?

Do you offer childcare?

Yes! Childcare is available for younger siblings during COMPASS sessions. This allows parents and caregivers to participate in the parent support group while their child attends COMPASS.Please let us know during registration if your family will need childcare so we can plan accordingly.

How old do I have to be to participate?

COMPASS is open to youth in K5 through 12th grade. Participants are placed in age-appropriate groups, allowing them to connect with peers and receive support in a way that is comfortable and meaningful for their stage of development.

What happens if there is inclement weather?

Accepted Answer

For the safety of our families, volunteers, and staff, COMPASS follows the Grafton School District’s weather-related closure decisions. If Grafton schools are closed due to inclement weather, COMPASS will also be canceled for that evening.Families will be notified of any schedule changes.
